TreeHouse Foods has signalled its intention to close its Bay Valley Foods pickle plant in Springfield, Missouri, with the loss of 46 jobs.

The majority of production will halt in August and full plant closure will take place in December of this year, the company said.

“A recent analysis of overall pickle production capacity and plant efficiency led us to this difficult decision. The balance of the volume will be transferred to other Bay Valley Foods locations,” SVP of operations Brian Demos commented.

Demos emphasised that the company expects no supply disruptions during the transition.

TreeHouse will record non-recurring, pre-tax charges of approximately US$5m, the company revealed. Annual cost savings are expected to total $2m, the group added.
