The dairy group said that it has decided to close the Blaydon site following a review of processing capacity and profitability of its two sites in the North of England. It will transfer the volume to its Huddersfield site.

Some 97 workers look set to to be affected by the move. The company said that it wil be discussing ways of avoiding redundancies, reducing the number of employees affected and mitigating the consequences of the proposed closure.

“We acknowledge that this will be a bitter blow for our employees in the North East but at the same time we have to recognise that this will further strengthen the Medina Group moving forward,” said Medina.
