Dutch food group CSM has opened a bakery ingredients facility in Shanghai to serve the Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese markets.

The company said today (13 May) that the facility would make products including mixes for bread, cake and muffins.

CEO Gerard Hoetmer said China was a “very promising market” for bakery products. The company’s global customers were expanding into China and economic growth was driving demand, he explained.

Hoetmer added: “This new production facility significantly increases our reach to the market in Greater China. We have started our presence in China with products sourced from our North American and European businesses. With this local production, we can better tailor our local product portfolio to local requirements and respond faster to customers’ needs.”
