Gluten-free food manufacturer Dr. Schar has partnered with Asda to offer its first Italian breadstick in the retailer’s UK stores.

Dr. Schar said its DS-gluten free breadsticks will help meet demand from consumers in the fast growing gluten and wheat free cracker and savoury biscuit channel, which has grown by 14% in volume year-on-year. The product will initially be sold in some 67 Asda stores.

Dr Schar retail brand manager Emma Herring said today (23 May): “With market data showing that there is an increase year on year in sales for savoury snacks we are confident this new listing will further help to meet consumer demand. Our research shows that gluten and wheat free shoppers have a desire to cook and eat normally and this dinner party appetiser will really fill a gap in the current gluten and wheat free range. We’re pleased to be offering even more choice to the consumer.”

Dr. Schar announced earlier this year that it had partnered with The Co-operative Group to launch a range of branded frozen gluten- and wheat-free foods in its stores, including Margherita Pizza, Sausage Rolls and Yorkshire Puddings.

The breadsticks will have a GBP2.79 (US$4.50) RRP for a 150g packet.
