HJ Heinz has indicated that its King of Prussia production site in Pennsylvania will be one of two US facilities to close as part of its plans to improve global productivity.
The US ketchup maker announced yesterday (26 May) that it plans to close or sell five manufacturing facilities worldwide – two in the US, two in Europe and one in the Pacific region. The group estimated that between 800 and 1,000 jobs would be cut from its global workforce.

A spokesperson for the company today confirmed that one of the US sites was a “small factory” in the Pennsylvania town of King of Prussia. The site manufactures foodservice frozen soup and employs 58 people.
“After an extensive review, Heinz has reached the difficult but necessary decision to cease production in King of Prussia, Pa. effective yesterday, and shift the production to our Cedar Rapids, Iowa facility. Employees were notified yesterday,” the spokesperson told just-food.
The other US site to close will be announced “at a later date”, the spokesperson added.
