Canadian frozen food specialist McCain Foods is to double capacity at its Harbin potato processing plant in China to meet the growth demands of its expanding Chinese operations.

“We have experienced strong growth throughout the Asia Pacific region, including exceptional growth in our China business,” said Fred Schaeffer, McCain’s regional president for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA). “This growth requires additional investment in local capacity to support our business and our customers.”

The first phase of the expansion programme has already been completed, with the final phase scheduled to be finished next year.

Originally built in 2005, the Harbin plant is one of a number of potato processing plants McCain now operates in the Asia Pacific region.
