A recall of Trader Joe’s own-label peanut butter – which is believed to be contaminated with salmonella – has been expanded to include products on sale at other US retailers.
New Mexico-based manufacturer Sunland Inc. yesterday (24 September) announced it had recalled a range of peanut, almond and cashew butter products, as well as Tahini and roasted blanched peanut lines.

Sunland manufactures private-label products for various US retailers including Sprout’s, Target and Fresh & Easy as well as branded nut butter.
The company, which published a list of 75 products included in the recall yesterday (24 September), said the recall has been expanded to include Target’s own-label Archer Farms nut butters, as well as various Fresh & Easy and Sunland nut butters.
The recall was sparked by an investigation from the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health authorities following an outbreak of salmonella that has included 29 confirmed cases across 18 US states.
Sunland president and CEO Jimmie Shearer said the recall was being initiated as a “precautionary step” while the FDA, CDC and health agencies continue to investigate the source of of the epidemic.
