Greencore, the Ireland-based own-label group, and Ginsters pasty maker Samworth Brothers are reported to be among the first-round bidders for UK desserts-to-sandwich firm Uniq.
Reports in the UK have claimed that initial bids for Uniq, which supplies products to retailers including Marks and Spencer, were made this week. According to The Financial Times, a sale of Uniq is expected next month.
Greencore, which failed in its bid to merge with UK food maker Northern Foods earlier this year, has been linked to a number of companies since that deal fell through.
The first indications that Uniq would be on the block came in April, when the pension fund that owns over 90% of the business was looking to sell at least part of its stake.
Greencore and Samworth could not be reached for comment, while Uniq refused to be drawn on the reports. Spayne Lindsay & Co., which is advising Uniq’s pension trustees on the sale, declined to comment.
