French retailer Systeme U has booked an increase in sales in the first nine months of the year.

Turnover in the period amounted to EUR16.07bn (US$21.10bn), a 5.6% increase on the prior-year period excluding fuel, the retailer reported today (18 October). Including fuel, sales climbed 8.8% to EUR21.11bn.

The retailer said its U stores recorded a “good performance”, with sales climbing 5.6% and its market share increasing by 0.3 percentage points.

Systeme U said new customers and an increase in selling space in the period helped drive sales.
