Belgian retailer Delhaize today (12 September) announced a major reorganisation of its European operations.
The company is setting up Delhaize Europe, a unit that will encompass its domestic business and its operations in south-eastern Europe.
Delhaize has stores across the Balkans and in Bulgaria, Albania and Greece. The retailer boosted its business in the region earlier this year with the acquisition of Serbia-based Delta Maxi Group.
Delhaize said it wants to increase collaboration between its operating companies in Europe to generate cost savings and share best practice. The new division will be up and running at the start of next year.
Delhaize Europe will be led by CFO Stéfan Descheemaeker. He will continue to serve as an executive vice president and as a member of Delhaize’s executive committee, while the search for a new CFO is underway.
Beckers added: “I know the group can count on Stéfan’s demonstrated skills in performance, growth and cost management to successfully lead this new organisation into the future.”
