US grocery retailer Stater Bros has promoted Dan Meyer to the position of senior vice president of retail operations.

In the newly-created position, Meyer will be responsible for the retail operations of all 167 Stater Bros supermarkets as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the corporate training centre. He will report to executive vice president of retail operations and administration George Frahm.

Meyer, 41, most recently served as senior regional vice president at the retailer.

“This promotion is a result of his leadership skills and the contributions that he has made towards the success of the company’s retail operations department,” Stater Bros chairman and CEO Jack Brown said yesterday (22 September).

Meyer has also been elected to serve on the board for the California Grocers Association effective 1 December.

Last month, Californian-based Stater Bros reported an increase in third-quarter net income as the company saw sales rise over the period. Net income for the period was up 18.3% to $7.1m, while sales rose 4.3% to $39m.
