Ferrero has said it has “no plans” to set up a joint logistics partnership with any of its rivals in Europe.
Earlier this month, confectionery giants Ferrero and Hershey announced they had joined forces on warehousing, transport and distribution in North America, to the surprise of many industry watchers.
However, when asked by just-food if Ferrero was looking at similar deals outside the US, UK managing director Christian Walter said there were “no plans”. He adding that logistics companies used by Ferrero in the UK already transport the company’s brands alongside those produced by rival confectioners.
Andrew Lazar, an analyst at Barclays Capital, said the alliance between Hershey and Ferrero could lead to further co-operation and cost-savings opportunities and thinks other businesses will follow suit.
He added that he believes confectionery competitors in Europe have been sharing distribution and warehousing facilities for some time.
