New Zealand dairy firm Synlait has opened an infant milk formula plant in Dunsandel, south of Christchurch.
Tim Groser, the New Zealand Minister of Trade, said today (22 November) he was “delighted” to open the NZ$100m (US74.5m) factory and congratulated the executives of Synlait and Bright Food Group, the Chinese food company that bought a majority stake in the New Zealand company last year for CNY382m (US$60m).
“This is another major step forward in our rapidly expanding trading relationship with China. It will create more export growth and sustainable jobs in New Zealand,” he said.
The new plant will produce infant and adult nutritional formulations, food ingredients and milk powder products under Synlait’s Pure Canterbury brand.
“Growing world-wide demand for high-value formulated milk powders designed to improve families’ normal diets and protect against health concerns drove the development,” Synlait Milk CEO John Penno added.
