Wal-Mart de Mexico posted a 10% jump in sales during 2009, with gains driven by new store openings and increased customer footfall.
The Mexican retailer said yesterday (7 January) that sales rose to MEX269.4bn (US$20.6bn) over the 12-month period.
Same-store sales increased 3.4%. During the period, the group opened 275 new stores and served 14% more customers, Walmex said.
The company, which is majority owned by Wal-Mart, operates 1,472 supermarkets, restaurants and clothing stores in Mexico.
Looking to the coming year, Walmex said it expects to see sales continue to rise as it further expands its store base and integrates Wal-Mart Centroamerica, which it recently acquired from its parent company.
