Three food co-operatives in France – Cam 56, Coopagri Bretagne and Eolys – are merging to create a single group spanning beef, pork, poultry, eggs and vegetables.

The merger is scheduled to be finalised in June this year when the name and logo of the new co-operative will be unveiled.

The company will employ 6,000 staff, operating from 300 sites and generating a global annual turnover of EUR2.8bn.

“In pooling areas of competence, pursuing innovative development and rationalising costs, the new co-operative will contribute to strengthening the farming activities of its members, at a time of  major upheaval in the sector,” a joint statement read.
