Maple Leaf Foods, the Canada-based meat and bakery group, has appointed Claude Lamoureux to the company’s board of directors.

Lamoureux, who will replace the retiring Robert Stewart from 24 April, was previously CEO of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board.

“We are delighted that Mr Lamoureux has agreed to be nominated to the Maple Leaf Board,” said Wallace McCain, chairman of Maple Leaf Foods. “He brings vast knowledge of global markets, corporate governance, value creation strategies and the evolution of Maple Leaf Foods from a commodity-driven business in the mid-90’s to a leading Canadian consumer packaged foods company.”

Maple Leaf Foods this month closed its Winnipeg plant as part of an ongoing overhaul of its meat processing operations.

Some 650 jobs were lost at the Warman Road site as part of a restructuring programme to boost value-added production at the company’s Brandon, Manitoba site.
