Three UK companies have withdrawn chocolate products because they contain an undeclared milk protein, the UK’s Food Standards Agency has said.

Whitakers Chocolates has withdrawn its Whitakers Rich Smooth Plain Chocolates 70% Cocoa with best before dates of October 2008 and the product code 7122.


Delvaux Chocolates has withdrawn its 100% Organic Belgium Dark Chocolate – Petit Organique 120g with a best before date of 22 June 2008.


Poundland have recalled Churchfield’s Fine Foods Dark Chocolate with the best before date of 26 March 2009.

In the future these products will be relabelled to show advice on the risk of possible cross contamination with milk, the FSA said in a statement.


The FSA told just-food that there is no direct link between the companies. “A local authority did a survey of chocolate bars and uncovered the labelling issue. This is why three such similar recalls have been announced at the same time,” a spokesperson for the watchdog commented.
