US supermarket group Stop & Shop has launched two programmes designed to encourage shoppers to use reusable carrier bags.
For every bag that a customer brings from home, Stop & Shop will take five cents off the shopping bill.
Meanwhile, from now until 24 April, when a customer buys US$15 of selected General Mills products they will receive five reusable bags for free.
