Slovakian investment fund Penta has bought a 97.3% stake in Hungarian meat processor Kaiser Food Elélmiszeripari for an undisclosed sum.
The combined group, with a market share of 18%, becomes the second-biggest player in Hungary within the meat processing sector. Penta already owns a similar company called Debreceni Csoport Húsipari.
Kaiser operates two plants in northern Hungary, in Mosonmagyarovári and Abde. The factories together employ some 250 people and their combined sales last year totalled approximately EUR18m.
Penta spokesman Martin Danko would not be drawn on plans for the two plants and its employees.
“I cannot as yet tell you because the entire transaction still has to be approved by the Hungarian anti-monopoly office, a process that will take between three and six months,” he told just-food.
