The latest world economic indicators published by French national statistics agency INSEE this week offer no prospect of declining food prices in the foreseeable future.


High-energy and primary crop prices are here to stay, INSEE predicted.


The appearance of a new crop has helped wheat prices to ease since March.


However, INSEE warned, there are signs of economic aftershocks of the Chinese earthquake.


Since the disaster destroyed large areas of rice production in Burma and China, world prices have responded by rising steeply, hitting US$1 per kg at the end of March, with no prospect of easing.
