UK supermarket operator J Sainsbury is reported to have been considering a plan to axe up to 5,000 senior store staff in order to bring it into line with rivals Asda and Tesco.

According to a report in the Mail on Sunday, up to half the senior manager jobs at Sainsbury’s 535 stores would be under threat, but the cost savings would be used to recruit up to 10,000 junior staff for jobs such as cashiers and shelf stackers.
The plan is not yet thought to have been approved, reported Dow Jones International News.
