Belgium-based retailer Delhaize has bought two stores in Romania from the Primavera supermarket chain.
The company confirmed to just-food today (14 December) that it had purchased the stores located in Bucharest and Pitesti. However, the acquisition is currently pending approval from the competition authorities.

A spokesperson for Delhaize said the reason for the purchase was for expansion purposes.
“Romania is a very important market for us, we have not made it a secret that the country is one of our growth markets,” the spokesperson said.
Delhaize currently has 64 stores in Romania, excluding the two pending approval. It bought four Bucharest supermarkets operated under the Prodas Holding Supermarket banner in March last year through the Belgian retailer’s local subsidiary, Mega Image.
