UK dairy processor Milk Link has appointed Hamish Renton to the new role of marketing director.

Renton, who joins the business from Uniq, where he was managing director of Riviera Desserts for three years, will spearhead the growth of Milk Link into added value, branded, and licenced dairy related products.

The role is part of a newly formed senior executive team and is the first senior marketing appointment within the organisation.

The company also confirmed plans of a new innovation centre outside of Exeter designed specifically for new product development, in which Hamish and his team will work. The facility, which will be used to develop a range of new products from soft cheeses to flavoured milk, is expected to open early 2009.

Asked whether a costly centre is the way forward in the current economic climate, Renton said: “There is a lot of doom and gloom with the economic crisis at the moment and consumers want value for money and are looking for healthier products. Scaling back on those areas is a sure fire way to end up in trouble and we’re not going to do that.”

Renton said there were no immediate plans for any product launches just yet: “It is early doors for me and I’m still getting my head together with the new company, getting to know the eight factories and planning budgets,” he added.
