Rewe, the Germany-based retailer, has revamped the way it organises its businesses outside its domestic market and created a single unit to oversee its operations in Italy, Austria and Eastern Europe.
Frank Hensel has been lined up to become CEO of Rewe International, which has been set up to create a “leaner” business outside Germany, a spokesman told just-food today (13 January).
However, the spokesman insisted the shake-up had nothing to do with costs but would in fact see an expansion of Rewe’s management team.
“We still have our expansion plans for central and Eastern Europe, in important markets like Russia and Romania,” the spokesman said.
The move came as Rewe said it had completed changes to its executive team. Among the changes, Jan Kunath has been appointed to head Rewe’s B2B and specialist store, and Armin Rehberg will take charge of the company’s discount business.
