Canadian organic and natural food retailer Planet Organic Health has posted a 16.8% rise in sales for the second quarter.
The company booked consolidated net sales of C$32.1m (US$25.8m) for the period ended 31 December – a C$4.6m increase on the previous year.
The group’s market division showed same-store sales growth of 8.3% for the quarter. Total revenues grew from C$13.2m to C$15.4m – an increase of 16.6%.
Mrs Green’s Natural Market, the company’s US division, showed same-store sales growth of 1.3%. In US dollars, total revenues at the division grew from US$10.9m to $11m. When expressed in Canadian dollars, the company benefited from the decline of the Canadian dollar as sales from the Mrs Green’s division increased by 25% over the same quarter last year.
“We are extremely happy about our Q2 sales results given the current economic environment in both Canada and the US,” said Darren Krissie, CFO. “We continue to focus on serving our customers and increasing our efficiencies as best we can.”
