A Kobe meat wholesaler has filed a lawsuit against Snow Brand Foods, alleging the food producer injured its reputation in the beef mislabelling scandal uncovered earlier this year.

Yamaga Meat is seeking damages of ¥58m (US$439,000) after Snow Brand repackaged imported meat as products of Yamaga Meat. It demands that the company repay illegally earned profits.

A senior public relations official at Snow Brand Foods, Hideyuki Nakamura, declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Snow Brand Foods decided earlier this week to enter into liquidation at the end of April.
