ConAgra Foods has recalled all varieties of Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter with product codes beginning 2111 over fears that it could be contaminated with salmonella.

The packaged food giant has taken what it describes as a “precautionary measure” after a report from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggested a possible link between the products and the spread of salmonella. The company is working with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate further the possibility of such a link.

“Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated the presence of salmonella, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority,” said Chris Kircher, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods. “We are working closely with the FDA to better understand its concerns, and we will take whatever additional measures are needed to ensure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of our products.”
