EU ministers have formally approved a 20,000 tonne duty-free annual import quota for high-quality chilled or frozen beef.

Although exporters from any country can fill this quota, it was part of a US-EU deal to head-off threatened additional punitive US tariffs on European food exports over the EU ban on hormone-treated beef from across the Atlantic.
