Japanese confectioner Fujiya has opened its first bakery café since the group was brought to the brink of collapse by a food safety scandal.
The move is part of the group’s attempt to rebuild its business after the scandal broke in January. It emerged that Fujiya was using of out-of-date ingredients in the production of its confectionery products.
Fujiya has received technical support from Yamazaki Banking to overhaul its operations and rejuvenate its business.
Depending on the performance of the outlet, which is located in Tokyo, Fujiya said today (9 May) that it would consider opening additional stores throughout Japan.
