Mexican retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) has reported a 4.5% rise in October same-store sales compared with the year-ago period, beating analysts’ forecasts.

Walmex, which is majority owned by US retail titan Wal-Mart, said total sales were 9.36bn pesos (US$852.7m), a rise of 10.1% compared to October 2002, reported Dow Jones International News.

The company said it opened 11 retail outlets and one restaurant in October, and also opened another supermarket at the beginning of November.

Walmex operates over 600 retail outlets and restaurants under banners such as Wal-Mart Supercenter, Superama and Sam’s Club.
