UK retailer Tesco has promoted its fresh foods chief to its executive committee.

Colin Holmes, who has been employed with Tesco for over 20 years, will continue as fresh foods commercial director.

Holmes has international experience from his time as finance director for the UK and Ireland and as CEO of convenience stores he led the transformation of the One Stop convenience chain after Tesco acquired the business in 2003.

“As we move into new markets such as banking and telecoms and grow our businesses overseas, investing in developing strong leaders becomes even more important. Our new leadership academy is a world class facility for management and leadership and will ensure that we continue to have a pipeline of talent for many years to come,” the company said.
