Canadian coffee roaster, distributor and retailer Van Houtte has reported a rise in second-quarter net profit, mainly due to a one-off charge in the year-ago period.
The Montreal-based company reported earnings of C$4.0m (US$3.1m), or 19 cents per share, for the quarter to 11 October, compared to $0.9m, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier.
The year-ago period included a charge of $3.9m related to the integration of new computer systems. Without this, earnings would have been $4.8m, or 21 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
Sales increased to $72.1m from $69.4m a year earlier. Canadian sales rose 5.1%, while sales in the US rose 10%, reported Reuters.
