Following consultation with the ministry of agriculture and the department of animal husbandry and dairying, the Director General of Foreign Trade has announced that exports of fodder will be allowed during the current fiscal year 2000-1.
Under the ministry of commerce and industry, the DGFT has laid down regulation for the exportation of up to 15,000 tonnes of wheat and rice straw and 10,000 of pulse straw, and invited applications for export licenses from those who have not applied to export earlier this fiscal year. Applications will also require a letter from the foreign buyer.
Because of drought, the purchase of fodder from the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa has been prohibited.
