The Asian Development Bank has provided a loan for the improvement of farm incomes and the reduction of poverty in the northwest region of Bangladesh.

The Northwest Crop Diversification Project aims to build sustainable partnerships between farms and non-governmental organisations and public sector agencies to extend production and enable efficient marketing of high value crops.

With training for farmers and a pilot credit support scheme for agribusinesses, it is hoped that the market for agricultural produce will be stimulated. The funding of several research programmes are similarly hoped to identify useful technologies and development projects are to be overseen by an international project management unit, which will offer support and guidance.
