Mexican conglomerate Alfa has bought a US dairy producer in a bid to boost sales among Hispanic consumers over the border.
Alfa subsidiary Sigma Alimentos agreed a deal to buy Mexican Cheese Producers (MCP) for an undisclosed sum.
Sigma operates across a range of chilled food segments in the US, including cold cuts, yogurt, cheese and prepared foods.
“This acquisition is another step forward in our strategy of reinforcing the competitive position of our businesses in the key markets they serve,” said Alfa chairman and CEO Dionisio Garza Medina. “It will also allow us to accelerate our penetration in the U.S. Hispanic market.”
MCP has a production facility in Wisconsin and has distribution centres in Illinois and Georgia, from where it sells products to parts of the US with a heavy concentration of Hispanic consumers.
