Spanish baker Panrico has insisted a plant in the Galician capital, Compostela will remain in production in 2010, despite reports of job cuts.


The company is understood to have made 18 job cuts at the plant in the last two weeks Spanish press reported yesterday, due to high maintenance costs required to keep the plant in production.


However, a spokesperson for the baker told just-food today (27 November): “Small personal settings are produced according to production needs and provided in accordance with union representatives”.


The Spanish baker insisted: “The Panrico’s Factory in Galicia works smoothly and will continue in 2010.”


Earlier this year, production at Panrico’s facilities in Catalonia ground to a halt after around 800 workers went on strike over pay and the company’s plans to transfer a production line to Milan.
