Wal-Mart de Mexico has appointed its CEO and to head up the US retail giant’s operations across Latin America.

Eduardo Solorzano will oversee Wal-Mart’s operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico, the company announced today (18 December).


In addition to his new regional role, Wal-Mart de Mexico has elected Solorzano chairman of its board.


As a result, Scot Rank, executive vice president and COO, has been named to replace Solorzano as president and CEO of the Mexican business. Rank has held a career with Wal-Mart de Mexico for nine years.


Based in Wal-Mart’s Latin American regional office in Miami, Solorzano will assume his new role on 18 January.

Solorzano has led Wal-Mart de Mexico since 2005 and has seen the company through its recent acquisition of Wal-Mart’s operations in Central America.


“Eduardo’s experience in Mexico makes him the best candidate to lead our Latin American operations,” said Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart International.


“Walmart de Mexico is our most successful Latin American operation, and with this appointment, Eduardo can further enhance all our businesses in the region.”
