The Asia Pacific Food Co. entered a guilty plea in Richmond Provincial Court to one count of violating the Meat Inspection Act, and was fined C$1,500 (US$) for moving non-federally inspected meat products to Alberta.

The company broke the law on 5 January 2001 when it sent buns and dumplings containing pork from BC to a retail outlet in Calgary. Moving meat products between provinces or internationally is only allowed by companies that are federally registered.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency discovered this when an inspector in Calgary received a trade complaint against a Calgary-based retail outlet because it was selling meat dumplings that didn¹t contain the meat inspection legend. These products, which were received from Asia Pacific Foods, were subsequently detained in both Calgary and Edmonton.
