Foodtrader.com(TM), the first, largest and most comprehensive online business-to-business marketplace for global food exchange, today announced an industry first: an exclusive joint-marketing agreement with Tachyon, Inc.(TM), the first company to bring high-performance, two-way, satellite-delivered Internet access to market.

The agreement supports Foodtrader.com’s commitment to be an all-inclusive empowerment tool by giving farmers and growers in remote areas the ability to access the Internet and post food products for sale. For the first time, rural growers can take advantage of world market price increases and compete on a level playing field with their more urban counterparts.

“We have always said that Foodtrader.com is a true empowerment tool,” said Tor Boswick, vice chairman of Foodtrader.com. “This historic agreement absolutely substantiates that claim by giving smaller, less powerful growers the ability to compete at a global level. It has the potential to be one of the major e-Commerce milestones for the food and agriculture industry.”

Tachyon is an Internet infrastructure company that provides reliable, high-speed Internet connections that are accessed through a user’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) or business network. Tachyon’s unique two-way satellite connections offer a solution for Foodtrader.com members in rural and remote locations where high-speed land lines and telephone connections are not available. Tachyon delivers data rates ranging from 300 Kbps to 2 Mbps and guarantees installation within 10 business days of an order.

The service initially will be offered in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. Later this year Tachyon plans to expand service in Europe and roll out service in the Middle East, Asia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, giving potential Foodtrader.com members in outlying regions of the world access to Internet technology.

“It’s been tremendously exciting to take an idea, develop it, and see it accepted in the marketplace,” said Dr. John Koehler, Tachyon’s founder, president and CEO, “but it’s even more satisfying to bring an affordable solution where none existed before. It gives me great pleasure to see that our farmers and growers will benefit from this technology.”

Called Tachyon.net(TM), the service utilizes the capacity of geostationary satellites already in orbit to make the advantages of two-way broadband access to the Internet available to anyone, anywhere. The technology to take advantage of those existing satellites required two-and-a-half years of engineering development and resulted in 20 patents pending for the company.
