QSA, a designer and distributioner of food industry-specific product development and product management software solutions, has announced that Kraft Foods Europe went live after a two year joint development project with QSA’s web-based Specifications Management System following a period of user acceptance testing and a full data migration from their existing QSA solution.
Kraft Foods Europe, one of the world’s leading food manufacturers, will operate the system across more than 50 sites in most European countries; the initial rollout is in progress with over 60 users in ten countries already accessing the system in the first week of live operation.
Peter Hennessey (Senior Director Corporate Quality, Regulatory & Scientific Services Kraft Foods Int at R&D, Munich) comments: “It is crucial that we have accurate development information emanating from our R&D functions and be able to make this available across the whole business in a rapid and controlled way. Ease of use, rapid data retrieval and meeting our varied business requirements across multiple product areas are key criteria for a leading edge specification management system.”
“Working with QSA has provided our business with a leading development and management tool to impart effective change control, enabling us to be more efficient and responsive in a highly competitive market,” he added.
The new system has been designed and developed to meet the needs of global food manufacturers; providing integrated recipe development, effective raw materials management and specifications control, as well as comprehensive process management to ensure consistent documentation and communication of finished product safety and quality standards across multiple international manufacturing operations.

By GlobalDataThe web-based nature of the new system is enormously important, using the power of the corporate intranet to enable real-time access to a single central source of information in a highly secure environment, and enabling a single central deployment for ease of rollout to multiple sites in multiple countries.
QSA highlighted the benefits to Kraft Foods Europe as including:
·Single source of product information, same version being accessed across all sites
·Ability to centrally maintain corporate standards e.g. microbiological tests for use across the business
·Improved communication across the business
·Effective and fast on-line management reporting
·Scaleable and robust system architecture (Microsoft DNA), enabling current and future needs of the business to be met
·Electronically controlled approval processes, providing greater confidence in information through the extra level of control provided
·Reduced levels of administration and a reduction in the paper element of communications between different parties involved.
·Advanced data search and retrieval functions provide major benefits regarding speed and accuracy.
Simon Shepherd, QSA’s Managing Director, comments “This represents a major achievement, and is the culmination of a considerable effort by QSA and Kraft working together. The ongoing partnership with Kraft will confirm QSA’s position as world leaders for providing full Specification Management solutions to the food and grocery sectors.”
