The many misconceptions that Americans have about agriculture could have serious consequences for US agriculture, according to the American Farm Bureau.
A lack of educational information for environmental educators and the public results in agricultural illiteracy, so many Americans still believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows, brown eggs are nutritionally superior to white ones, and that all cows with horns are bulls.
The Educating about Agriculture programme is developing a curriculum project to correct those ideas, and address more complex questions as well: Can the world support more vegetarians than meat eaters? What roles do food shortages and world population play in world hunger?
The American Farm Bureau hopes to supply the national dialogue with research-based knowledge through a series of industry events along with supplying educators with new materials to address the problem.
