Spanish pasta maker Pastas Gallo has posted a 10% jump in 2005 sales, fuelled by functional food launches, a company spokeswoman told just-food on Tuesday (18 July). Gallo intends to invest EUR10m (US$12.6m) this year to boost production and expand its product portfolio, she added.
Gallo’s launch of vegetable-enriched Gallo V pasta helped drive last year’s sales hike (of an undisclosed amount) and “dynamise” the company’s dried-pasta line, which growth had slumped in recent years.
Gallo V’s sales grew 345% last year and are expected to rise over 34% in 2006, the spokeswoman confirmed.
Barcelona-based Gallo also launched the ‘rico en fibra’ pasta label in early 2005, helping to further boost its fortunes, the spokeswoman said. The line has since been renamed ‘fibras blancas’ or white fibres, she added.
Earlier this year, Gallo launched ‘Gallo al minuto,’ a new range of pre-cooked pasta cups in a variety of flavours. It also extended its fresh pasta line to include salmon and crab, the spokeswoman said.
Gallo intends to introduce new functional meals to boost this year’s sales, the spokeswoman noted without providing a turnover target.
