UK-based retailers J Sainsbury and Tesco are both launching organic vegetable box schemes, sourcing UK-grown crops seasonally.

Sainsbury’s will make the boxes available to customers at 20 stores in East Anglia and the East Midlands during a trial period next month, while Tesco will test the same idea in south London from early September.
Sainsbury’s spokesperson Claire Webb told just-food: “We have offered our customers another way of buying organic produce, which is seasonal and 100% UK-grown, and we will continue to source locally where we can. We will see how this trial goes and then look at the possibilities with other ranges of products.”
Tesco said its own launch was not a reaction to Sainsbury and had been planned for months.
