Fastfood chain Wendy’s is planning to give away Junior Frosty desserts this weekend at restaurants throughout the US as a thank you gesture to its customers after the affair of the alleged finger in the chilli.

Customers don’t have to buy anything to get the desserts which are available from Friday 13 May to Sunday 15 May.  The company estimates it will give away more than 14 million Junior Frostys during the special three-day event.

“We’re thanking our loyal customers for their support following the incident in San Jose,” said Tom Mueller, Wendy’s president and chief operating officer.

“Our customers stood by us while we defended our good name and protected our employees’ livelihoods, so now we’re showing our appreciation with free Frostys,” he said.

“We’re moving on. Our job is to make and serve the best hamburgers, chicken and salads in the business. This weekend is all about having some fun and acknowledging our customers’ continued confidence in Wendy’s,” Mueller said.

Wendy’s recently conducted the same offering in the San Francisco Bay area and Sacramento. Customers turned out in record numbers and stores gave away more than 100,000 Frostys.

According to the felony complaint against Anna Ayala, the woman who claimed she found a finger in a bowl of chilli at a Wendy’s restaurant, the affair caused a loss to Wendy’s restaurants in the area of $2.5m.
