US fastfood chain Wendy’s Restaurants is to offer a fresh fruit cup, containing honeydew melon and cantaloupe chunks, instead of French fries as an option in its Kids’ Meals.
Starting this week, Wendy’s will also offer eight-ounce, single serve plastic containers of reduced fat (2%) milk or low fat (1%) chocolate milk as Kids’ Meal beverage alternatives at 420 Wendy’s restaurants in Columbus, Ohio; Miami; Philadelphia; and Raleigh, North Carolina.
The company said customers will not be charged extra for selecting milk or a fruit cup as part of their Kids’ Meal order. Both types of milk, as well as the fruit cup, will also be offered as individual items on the main menu.
Wendy’s operates more than 6,250 restaurants in the United States, Canada and international markets.
Rival fastfood chain McDonald’s announced in July that it planned to market-test apple slices as an option in its US Happy Meals, having already started selling fresh fruit at its UK outlets earlier this year.
