Leading retailer Tesco has started selling imported Polish foods to meet the needs of the growing immigrant community in the UK.
Goods stocked include traditional Polish favourites such as pickled cabbage and local vodka brands, as well as treat foods such as marshmallows covered in chocolate.
Since Poland acceded to the European Union, nearly 265,000 Poles have been granted work visas in Britain, although it is believe the real number of Poles in the UK is significantly higher.
Rival supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is also selling Polish food in five stores in London and the southeast of England on a trial basis. Many Polish delicatessens have sprung up in the last year or two, so it was only a matter of time before supermarkets seized the opportunity to draw more customers.
