Retailers can sell more fruits and vegetables if they market them as snacks, according to the Produce for Better Health Foundation industry group.
Consumers already eat significant quantities of fruit at breakfast, and more than 70% indicate that snacking is when they are most likely to eat more produce. Consumer data also indicates that retailers should promote and advertise more produce, more often; and price promotion and coupons are the best ways to entice consumers to buy more fruits and vegetables, as well as posting recipes and sampling.
Only 35% of shoppers feel their supermarket effectively provides health information, and retailers that use produce departments to do so can increase sales dramatically by getting shoppers to meet current daily serving recommendations.
