Canadian food company McCain Foods is to spend C$29m (US$21.4m) on doubling the size of its Grand Falls, New Brunswick pizza plant.

The expansion, which is to begin in August, is aimed at increasing capacity and is due for completion in May 2004. McCain will also increase the facility’s workforce by around 16 people from its current 265.

“McCain pizzas have become among our most successful Canadian products and additional production capacity is required to meet increasing sales,” Allison McCain, chairman of the Florenceville, N.B.-based company, was quoted by the Canadian Press as saying.
