Harrison McCain, co-founder of Canadian food giant McCain Foods, has died of kidney failure, aged 76.


McCain, who was from Florenceville, New Brunswick, founded McCain Foods in 1956 with his three brothers, Andrew, Robert and Wallace, reported the Canadian Press.


The company now makes frozen foods, pizzas and desserts at 55 production plants around the world and employs around 18,000 people. One-third of the frozen French fries consumed across the world today are produced by McCain Foods.


McCain stepped down as chairman of the company in December 2002. He was recently ranked as the 15th richest person in Canada, with an estimated personal wealth of C$1.2bn (US$0.9bn).
