Roger Corbett, chief executive of Australian supermarket giant Woolworths, has conceded that rival Coles Myer won customers from Woolworths with its fuel discount offer.
However, Corbett said Coles Myer’s recent strong sales growth would not curb Woolworths’ own strategy for aggressive growth, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
“Don’t give the impression for one moment that we are cowered into any defensive corner,” Corbett was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
“Our offensive strategies are right on place and, sometimes, you can’t win every battle but winning the war is important and that is what we are all about,” he added.
